We’re delighted to share some exciting news from Mellwaters Barn Cottages, including recent improvements at Wren Cottage and similar plans underway for Robin Cottage.

Located on the Bowes Loop of the Pennine Way, our cottages offer a wonderful base for countryside walks and visiting all the Areas of Outstanding Beauty close by.

Staying True to Our Accessible Roots and Looking Ahead

For many years, our holiday cottages were offered as 100% accessible holiday cottages, designed by a wheelchair user to make countryside stays genuinely comfortable for guests with disabilities.

Accessibility remains central to who we are and we will continue to provide features like level entry access, stairlifts, adapted facilities and free to use specialist equipment  because 'every body' deserves to enjoy time away in comfort.

With growing interest in countryside stays and increased visibility thanks to the Pennine Way / Roof of England walking routes nearby, we’ve decided to evolve our offering so that around 50 % of bookings continue to be prioritised for accessible stays, while the other half is open to a broader range of guests. This approach helps us share this beautiful setting with more people while maintaining our commitment to accessibility and care.

Fresh Interiors and Thoughtful Enhancements

Alongside this evolution, we’ve been investing interior updates to keep our cottages feeling welcoming, fresh and beautifully maintained staying true to the character and charm of countryside accommodation that you'd expect from our location.

Recent and upcoming improvements at Wren & Robin Cottages include:

• New softer, neutral wall colours to brighten and enhance the living spaces

• Fresh carpets in the living area, stairs and landing

• New bathroom flooring

• Made-to-measure curtains and blinds for the perfect finish

• Updated cushions and contemporary artwork that complement the rural setting

• New divan-style beds with zip-and-link mattresses for flexible sleeping arrangements

These enhancements ensure our cottages remain comfortable, modern  and well-appointed for all guests.
