Wake up with the sun at Wren Cottage, a welcoming west-facing retreat set in the heart of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to the village of Bowes. Ideally located for those walking the Pennine Way or the Roof of England walk, the cottage offers a peaceful and comfortable place to stop, rest, and prepare for the next stage of your journey.
Wren Cottage is particularly well suited to long-distance walkers, with 1-night stays available, making it an ideal overnight stop after a full day on the fells. Whether you’re arriving tired, wet, or simply ready to put your feet up, the cottage provides a warm, private space to recover and plan the next day’s route.
The cottage features a fully fitted open-plan kitchen and a comfortable dining and seating area for two. For walkers arriving late or preferring not to cook, we can provide a microwave or oven-ready meal on request, and our welcome pack allows you to enjoy a simple breakfast before an early departure.
Upstairs, the bedroom can be arranged as either a double or twin, depending on your preference, and includes an easy-access en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower, WC, and hand basin — ideal for a hot shower after a long day on the trail.
Guests also have access to laundry facilities, perfect for drying walking clothes overnight, and cyclists can make use of a secure bike storage area. With very low light pollution, the surrounding area is renowned for its dark skies, making it a superb location for stargazing and night photography.
Whether you’re walking the Pennine Way, completing the Roof of England walk, or simply exploring the North Pennines on foot, by bike, or through a camera lens, Wren Cottage offers a practical, comfortable, and restful base in one of England’s most beautiful upland landscapes.
