Back in the summer we wrote here on the blog about Barnard Castle being a ‘sight for sore eyes’. You might remember that a certain someone made Barney very famous in the news at the time.
In that same post we wrote about some of the wonderful things to see and do in our part of the world. Another post in May had us sharing how local communities in Durham and Teesdale were coming together and supporting each other throughout the national lockdown.
There has never been a better time to support local businesses. With more people working from home over the last nine months, small businesses local to us are the life blood of our communities. Whether it’s the hairdressers, coffee shops or restaurants, they’ve all kept the economy going and our spirits high.
We’re surrounded by small, independent local businesses and we want to give them a shout out. We’re going to continue to encourage our guests to shop local when staying with us throughout next year and beyond.

Maxwells DIY is a family run business with over 80 years’ experience! They have ten branches throughout the North East including Ashington, Barnard Castle, Birtley, Gateshead, Jarrow, North Shields, South Shields, Peterlee and Sunderland.
This family butchers sell a selection of locally sourced meat and cheese from around the county along with their own sausages and homemade pies.
