With our personal experience with dealing with disabilities we take great pleasure in welcoming people who may be in a wheelchair or just less able to walk without help.
There is level entry access to all the cottages and all doorways (both internal and external)
are 850 - 900 mm wide, suitable for most wheelchairs. The platform lift will take a standard manual wheelchair.
All the rooms in the large cottages have 1500 mm turning circles and in many cases
the area for turning is greater. The through lifts will take most manual and electric
wheelchairs. The platform lift will take a standard manual whealchair.
The rooms in the smaller cottages, except the bathroom will take most wheelchairs
but these cottages only have a stairlift, suitable for people with some mobility.
The doorways in the cottages are all wide enough for wheelchairs.
The kitchens in the large cottages are designed so that a wheelchair user
can use them - kneeholes under the hobs and sinks plus cookers which have non
tilting shelves. There is also a pullout worksurface for ease of working from a wheelchair.
All the cottages have profiling beds and all the wardrobes have adjustable height coat rails.
There is a ceiling hoist in the bathrooms of the three cottages which have traditional
baths and over shower. Two cottages have level entry shower rooms (wet rooms).
In addition there is also a list of specialist equipment available for the use of our
visitors which ranges from mobile hoists to shower chairs, Venus Bath Aid, toilet
seat raisers, reclining chair etc.
Rather than the traditional fixed grab rail / drop rails, we have chosen the movable grab
rails appreciated by many visitors as a big improvement to previous standards.
The big advantage of these is that they can be positioned at any height and any angle
to suit personal preferences. These grab rails work on suction and will adhere to most
smooth surfaces and will withstand a pull of 60 kg.
The cottages were designed by a wheelchair user who understands the problems of accessibility. The access to the cottages is exceptionally good and the purpose built footpaths make the farm accessible too so that everyone can enjoy the magnificent views. |
